Our Poinsettias and Christmas cactus are gone, making room for our foliage and succulents. (For those of you that want to keep your poinsettias, click here for instructions on how to best take care of them). Our buyers travel to Florida for the finest foliage plants. The will look great now inside your home; then when the weather heats up, they will be ready for your deck or poolside. We meet with many succulents and other houseplant vendors to ensure the best quality of indoor plants for your home. Folks tell us that we have one of the most extensive line of succulents - African Aloe, Zebra plants; we carry them all from A – Z! We have assorted sizes – small 2.5” pots to large 12” pots. Some are in decorative ceramic pots, great for gift giving and others are waiting for you to group together or plant singly in your own containers. Here is a small listing of some of the more traditional and not so traditional plants in our garden center: Crotons, Ivy hanging baskets, Spider plants, Podocarpus tree, Neon-Grafted cactus, Canyon Coral, Bonsai, Ficus, Jade tree, Jewel plant, Dracena, Rainbow Bush – more here and more on the way. We are also growing many herbs for you to enjoy indoors now and then transplant outdoors come warmer weather. Rosemary, sage, thyme, mint, lavender – close your eyes, can’t you just smell fresh mint on your kitchen sill?

Winter is a good time to check on your indoor houseplants. Have you dusted them recently? That may sound silly, but plants need a good cleaning now and then. Do you have any Philodendrons, Dracaena, Rubber, or any other large leafed / smooth foliage plants? If so, give em’ a bath to remove dust and grime. Are there any signs of insects? If you need advice on a problem, ask one of our garden associates. Feed your plants with  ½ strength (we recommend Osmocote and have plenty on hand) and remember to rotate them to ensure adequate and even light. To keep your plants shapely, turn and prune them regularly. To promote bushy plants, pinch back new growth. Do you see any leaves that are turning yellow or brown? Any leaves that have curled up and fallen? The plant may not be getting enough water or is to warm or dry. If you are not sure, bring in a sample and ask one of our garden associates for advice.

Looking for a jump start gardening project? Now is a good time to take your collection of tools and either paint the wooden handles red or orange or even put fluorescent tape around them. This way, they will be more easily found when you lay them down in the garden or on the lawn! Don’t you just hate when you can’t find your trowel and you know it’s just gotta be there somewhere. Or maybe you are one of the lucky ones to have received some of the Radius, OXO, Dramm, or Felco tools that we offer.  Bulb augers, digging forks, watering tools, gloves, pruning shears – we have them all and have various brands to please everyone. For the younger gardeners, we have the ever popular Eurogardening tools (separate and kits).
